Wednesday's Word: Exhausted

Exhausted, spent, weary, beat, fatigued, done in...but in a good way.

Our family celebrated my Dad's 95th birthday this weekend. We planned a big brunch with my siblings and some of their offspring (and ours) and assorted cousins. Then before I knew it plans had grown to three days of get-togethers including a visit to the State Fair on its most crowded day ever! My dad clearly loved being the center of attention, and he is enjoying life much more since he and my stepmother moved into assisted living last June. But I'm an off-the-charts introvert, so even when celebrating with my own family, lots of face-time means lots of exhaustion.

Last week was the first week of Wild Rumpus Daycare for this season, so I was already tired before the socializing kicked in. And this week the kids arrive even earlier than last week...6:45 a.m., which is not really in my vocabulary! They let me sleep until 8, when they come and wake me for breakfast. Pretty sweet.

Meanwhile, I finished one big important work project early last week, but the weekend got away from me with not much progress on the next project. So I'm playing catch-up. On the other hand, this coming Friday is September 10. Exactly three months later, I'll be retired from work. Woo-hoo!

Bottom line: life is good but it wears me out, and there's not a lot of time for blogging. I expect that will be the case until, oh, let's say December 10!

I hear ya on the exhaustion of introversion. Just think: 3 month countdown underway. Wowzer.

Glad your dad enjoyed his special day(s).

"lots of face-time means lots of exhaustion."

I can relate to this a lot. I love spending time with friends and family, but I need quiet time just for me.

Congrats on your upcoming retirement! (And happy belated birthday to your dad!)

As an already retired extrovert, I grumbled over the holiday weekend being too long. No gym class, no bus service, everybody was taking the day off! Maybe once you've joined us, you'll know what I mean. I am glad other people got a three-day weekend, but retirement changes the meaning of that.

I know that exhaustion of family all too well. We love 'em but we gotta leave 'em ... for just a bit ... now and then.

You're almost to the finish line! "Hey, hey, you can do it if you set your mind to it, if you set your mind to it, you can DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!" The three-month countdown begins!!

95 -- that's just terrific. Belated wishes! I love reading about others' upcoming retirements -- makes me dream more than a bit about my own. Unfortunately, it's a few years down the road. I love reading about women around my age to whom retirement means not going to that job, not just sitting on the porch or in front of the TV. I'm thinking at that point, life really begins!

Hello there!!

It has been far too long since I visited. I've been consumed (blog time wise) with my own feed issues so I haven't been able to read much lately. I'm taking the day to visit all of my favorite haunts! Wow 6:45 -- I can't imagine!! I am so glad my girl sleeps until 7:30 at the earliest and often will go until 9:00 --- although with her new preschool schedule we have to roust her three days a week by 8:00. Anyway I digress... I visited and enjoyed your Grandma Grillin' and feel terrible that I missed your blogversary! Congratulations! Mine is looming too.... it is interesting, to me anyway, that so many of my favorite bloggers got started the same time as I did... so cool that we found each other in our first years.

I'm jealous that you still have your Dad and a bit sad that my Girl only has one Grandparent who lives 3000 miles away. We visit Nonnie (my mom) twice a year but it is clear so much more is available by having grandparents close. Your grandkids are very lucky! She is coming our way for a few weeks around Chrismas... perhaps we can convince her to stay!

Thanks for a nice visit. I will try not to stay away for so long next time!
