Three more days!

I can't quite believe it, but I have only three days left of working in the office. After this Thursday, I'll be working half-time at home and I'll drop in at the office briefly one or two afternoons a week until December 10, when I officially retire. Funny thing, we've been planning it and discussing it and I've longed for it, but it still doesn't seem real.

It's not like I'm retiring to a life of ease, because as of Monday the kids will show up at 6:45 a.m. every weekday.  Have I mentioned that I don't do mornings? Last year they arrived at about 9:15, which was totally acceptable. This 6:45 thing is a bit daunting.

Truth to tell, I feel a little disoriented.Big changes are in the making, but they are coming in stages. In a way, that makes it easier. In another way, I can't quite focus. So I'm thinking about the silly stuff: I have to figure out which three outfits to wear this week--the most attractive, the most comfortable, or whatever is clean and not too wrinkled!

Wow! This is really exciting, Nancy, well except for that early morning problem. I'm a morning person and have been up for two hours by then, but I also crash before the sun sets...

Congratulations on achieving the next step towards total freedom!

Exciting times indeed. I can empathise, as I too am not a morning person. But I hope all goes well, and good luck with the changes to your work. I'm sure, with time, you'll adjust to the new way of things :)

It sounds that a great way to ease into retirement. You are so lucky to have your grandchildren close. I flew several thousand miles so I could be with my oldest gradchild on her first day of kindergarten. Tomorrow is the big day! Enjoy you final three days of regular work...but I bet you'll like the irregular much better! Congratulations.

I am struggling with how long to keep working. I don't really want to not work at all, but I am a little burned out with nearly full time.
I think doing it in stages as you are is a good plan...except maybe for the 6:45 a.m. thing.
I'm afraid I might choose the most comfortable outfit at this point.

Easing into retirement. What a wonderful plan you have!

My granddaughters live 400 miles away. Aren't you lucky, even so - ugh - early in the morning.

You are so Very Lucky!! I wish it was me retiring!! I have 3 more years until full retirement but I want to retire now!! I agree about the getting up early.....I am so not a morning person!! I struggle getting to work at 8am and now trying to decide about going in earlier!

If it makes you feel any better, we're nervous about the 6:45 thing, too! =)

Alrightie, I was so prepared to tell you how jealous I was of the pending changes and then 6:45 AM screamed at me.
No thanks. And I love kids!

Wow.Very exciting to be so close to retirement! Also exciting to spend more time with the grandbabes--even if it does start pret-ty early in the morning!

The thought of retiring brings excitement that I can't even explain....I still have about 5 years to go...but I am looking forward to it. One of my kids mentioned this weekend that will be a perfect time to start babysitting for grandchildren! HAHA! Not sure that is what I had in mind.

Enjoy your week!

From working in a nice office to child care? Are you sure you're retiring? Ha! (I'm so jealous! I'm in the reverse situation. I've been working with kids for many years and can't afford to retire until I'm dead.)

Sounds like you have everything under control even if you do not feel it.

Thanks for stopping on my BON today

Oh, you will have the BEST time with the kiddos! Just make your coffee or do whatever you love to do in the mornings and plop 'em down with some play-dough or crafts. Then when you wake up for real you can interact and do all kinds of fun stuff with them!

Transitions always give me anxiety too. I'm still adjusting to the school year only 2 days in. I long for the day in September that comes and I find all this so routine that it's downright boring!

Congrats on retirement! Hope your last 3 days were fantastic!

Y'know...my dad thought about retirement for a looooong time...like since 1978. And when it finally happened last August, I think it was a shock to him. He has yet to stay in one place for more than a week and I think that's because he doesn't have any grandchildren to babysit and is scared to death he'll be bored. But you sure won't be! I can't wait to hear about what adventures you all go on! I know there will be many stories because with those 2, how could there NOT be? ;)

How very exciting! Congratulations -- I'm so delighted you are able to retire while you are young and healthy and can do so many things! I envy you a tad!

Oh my goodness, congratulations!! So so happy for you, I hope it's everything you desire and I'm looking forward to reading your retirement adventures.

You know all about my relationship with change, so I symapathize, but it sounds like there is a lot of good change and I hope it goes as smooth as possible.

Give yourself some time to adjust to all this change. I love that you're focusing on clothes. It's the concrete and cute that saves us every time. :-)

Well congratulations are clearly in order! I'm excited for you-- I predict you will love your retirement, and even your partial retirement! (Although I feel your pain on that 6:45 issue...) Still, I gotta stop going awol-- look what I almost missed here!

It's funny how stepping away from our routine can feel almost uncomfortable. It's scary, isn't it?

I suspect in a few months you will wonder how you ever survived with the OLD routine!
