I am sick and tired...

...of being sick and tired. I'm in my second week of being at least a little sick, and my second consecutive Saturday of being really miserable. With apologies to my blog friends who have real, serious issues (cancer, head trauma from a fall, debilitating chronic conditions, or illness and loss in their families), I just have to rant a little.

In early February, the grandkids started getting sick. Augie had a sinus infection, Vi an ear infection and a nasty double-action stomach bug, and they took turns having double pink eye. These maladies usually began at night, maximizing loss of sleep for the kids and their parents.

Peter and I had it easier: we monitored symptoms, dispensed meds, dialed down the activities when appropriate, and made sure everyone washed their hands. Repeatedly. Apparently that wasn't enough.

About two weeks ago I got a sore throat, which over time did a great imitation of swollen glands, ear ache, even sinus pain. On Thursday I thought it had finally gone. Friday it was back with a vengeance.

Meanwhile, remember that double-action stomach bug? Yeah, that hit me last weekend in addition to the throat thing. Hooray, it only lasted 24 hours. Boo, it was followed by two days of fatigue. Double boo, it, or a variation, is back again today.

I have three very pleasant, positive stories I want to tell you in this space. I even accidentally posted an incomplete draft of one yesterday. But none of those stories is ready, and I can't manage to make it so. They'll have to wait a bit.

Don't feel sorry for me...I've done enough of that. I just needed to explain my absence, and maybe whine a little. I feel better already.

It feels like it's going to last forever, and you can hardly remember when you felt good.

It won't last forever, though. And you will feel good again.

I think it's fine to rant!

What a great header! And yes, it's awful when we get sick, and I'm sending you very strong healing vibes. You'll know when they make it over to you, because you will be well and happy again. I guarantee it. :-)

Your new header is so precious! Nice.

It's funny. I haven't been sick since I quit working 4 years ago. I have my illness thing, but haven't been sick like with a cold or the flu in a long time. Perhaps it has much to do with stress and working and most of all, kids. However, I can remember having the flu and viruses and they suck! I hope you feel better soon.

Wow, you have had a rough couple of weeks. You are welcome to whine all you want to. Take the time you need to get better and take good care of yourself. I hope it is all behind you soon.

Sick kiddos + sore throat + stomach flu + fatigue = a grandma who has the right to rant. I can think of nothing that drags one down more that several weeks of illness, especially if the kids are involved. Get better. Get some rest. We are here to listen to each other rant.

Great whine! You have every right to whine when you are sick.
Sounds like I had the same headcold, sinus, sore throat, ear ache as you..mine is almost gone..I hope..I do not need a relapse.
I disinfected the entire bathroom today and ran around the house with Lysol wipes like a mad woman.
Get better soon..I also like your new header:)

I don't think enough credit is given to ranting as a form of relief. The best thing is going to be how good you feel on the other side of this. I've had a cold for the last week, and waking up with a clear head felt like heaven this morning. Hang in there.

ohhhh I'm so glad I'm here! I really, really, want to hear other people talk about what is bothering them! its a weird thing but it takes my mind off myself. I DON'T want to hear people talk about how fabulous they are, or how GREAT life is treating them. So... do me a favor and whine when you want and need to whine and I will read and relate. xoxo

There are some horrible bugs going around and they all just seem to hang on. I hope you are feeling better and look forward to hearing your stories!

Oh, poor Dear One! Our physical health has so much to do with our emotional health, to say nothing of our family's health when we're responsible for them. If you can't rant to friends who'll love you anyway, who else can you rant to? I wish you all speedy recovery and full robust health!

Hi Nancy! Good grief, that sounds relentless and miserable! I must confess I'm in the rudest of health this year, and I'll do my best to send some your way. Take care, Indigo

Sounds familiar! I've been having varied maladies on a rotating basis all year. Cold, flu, sinusitis, allergies (or was it pink eye?) loss of appetite, fatigue, mouth sores--my gosh, it is so tiresome!
Hang in there gal, I think what have got here is the galloping crud!

Oh wow- two stomach bugs in a row- you are having a string of back luck! I'm so sorry- hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better soon. Just feeling normal will probably make you think you can leap tall buildings!

Whining is always legally permissible when one is sick with the crud. One whiny post (to take you mind off it) combined with plenty of rest and chicken noodle soup is the recommended regimen... :)

I think you'll feel better now that you got the chance to vent. We all need that sometime or another. Take care dear.

Oh dear me! I'm so sorry for all of this.

The first 3 months of last year, I spent with acute bronchitis and all the coughing and not being able to breathe and etc. Even with meds, meds, meds. I was so afraid of a repeat this year. But thankfully, so far so good.

But we no longer do Nana/Pop/Day/Care. "Those-who-go-to-school" are germ factories, I know. -sigh-

But the "Grand" we did Day/Care for, is now a sophomore in college. The rest are next door, but Mommy stays home with them. Good thing. We are now *olden* and couldn't do-it any more. ,-)

Best wishes for your complete recovery, and very soon. But even then, you have to keep resting. Even if you are so sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Gentle hugs,
"Auntie"

As someone who spent a Lost Weekend in bed getting over a some of your similar symptoms, I appreciate your pain. And I'm glad your writing about it made you feel better. Deserved.

Guess what! You are totally allowed to feel crummy, blah, under the weather, sick -- and not have it be life threatening, doctor-requiring or anything else. And you're allowed to say so! Because you know as well as we do that everyone gets that way and it won't last forever, but hey -- let it be what it is for today. Maybe tomorrow. And I hope you feel much better very soon!

Anita said...

Oh no! You're supposed to be blissfully retired!

I'm sorry you feel lousy. I HATE any sort of pain, so I really do hope you're back to normal very soon.

I can totally relate. I was sick for a solid two months over the holidays, no less. Hang in there.
