High summer in the garden

As I sit typing, the garden just outside my window is teeming with life. The coneflowers and liatris are blooming their heads off, and the butterflies know it. I can see at least a dozen red admirals flitting around, sometimes doubling up on the choicest flowers. I'm happy to say that lots of bees are joining them. And finally today I've seen a monarch and a tiger swallowtail. Didn't get to photograph them because the kids kept me busy, but I'm hoping they'll return. (Augie thought a tiger swallowtail should be more orange, so he decided our visitor was a cougar).

This is my best photo of a red admiral so far this year and one wing is a bit blurred. They move quickly and then close their wings, which are not as colorful on the reverse. Anyway, add in the glorious (and tall) yellow daylilies, and this is my little piece of heaven, whether I'm outdoors or at my desk!

Completely bliss-worthy! --especially when you add in the grandkids!

You must come to our neck of the woods and visit the Butterfly House in Faust Park (Chesterfield, MO, suburban St. Louis County.) It's a sight to behold, and you can't stop the oohing and aahing!

Hey Nancy! I love a red admiral, but they're not so common in the UK as they used to be. I'm jealous! Indigo

Just read the summer of 85 post.
I had my 3rd baby that summer and thought I was an older Mom...my other 2 were 7 and 10. Now lots of Moms are just starting at that age (o:

Your garden is wonderful. I would love to do that in our backyard....if I could find some way to keep the dogs out of them. :)

I love butterflies!

Your pictures are beautiful and I am very impressed with your knowledge of the names of different types of butterflies.
The daylilies are blooming like crazy outside my window also.

Thanks for stopping by on my BON day.

And you've made me incredibly jealous with this post! When I visit my parents I often blog or catch up on blogs from their garden, but I don't have anything like this beautiful at my home.

Your butterfly picture and exploding garden are so wonderful to look at. I think it's a beautiful picture with the pink flower behind. I love to visit your part of the world, and you.

Beautiful! Your garden reminds me of one of my flower plots - all random and cottage like, planted with butterflies, bees and humming birds in mind.. now you have me thinking - I really must get out there and refill the feeders and weed a bit.

Happy Day!

For everything that I have in abundance in the organizing and creativity department, I'm lacking SEVERLY in the gardening department. And now, we don't even have a yard to do such things. But I love looking at your pictures. It's like going to the park...from the comfort of my own couch. Maybe I can make one of your pictures my screensaver and then it will be like its outside my window, too!
