Snowdrops...and snow mold

First flowers of the season are always the snowdrops. They peek up while there is still snow on the ground. Our recent warm days melted all the snow but left a bumper crop of snow mold (upper right, looks kinda like insect webs).

My snowdrops weren't up yet last I checked. I'll have to check again tomorrow morning.

I love seeing the new flowers coming up. We have a few, but after 70 today, and 65 predicted for tomorrow we are supposed to have 30 and up to 10 inches of snow Friday. I hope the new flowers survive. There are yards around here with huge patches of snow mold.

Any day a blogger can make me go Wikipedia something is a good day. Snow mold?? Really?? I had no idea. I mean, I'm not really that surprised that SOMETHING is growing under all of that wet...I just didn't know there was a name for it. I did my own little dance of joy, joy this past weekend at the buds on all of my rosebushes. Hurry up, May!! I'm ready to eat food cooked over a flame and drink wine on the patio!

I'd never heard of snow drops before. They're cute little bossoms. I had lots of snow mold outside my bedroom window but it melted away with the first rain.
It's amazing all the lifeforms that exist outside our normal range!

My daffodils are starting to fade, but the tulips are ready to burst. Love this time of year.
