Our back-yard buckeye |
Today is sunny and calm and about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It may be the last warm day until next spring.

Butterfly weed seeds float on gossamer wings |
Thing is, at this point we Minnesotans say that about every warm and sunny day. "Beautiful day!" comes the greeting. "Yup, probably the last one for this year," comes the reply. Just in case that's true, I'm posting a few more photos of this year's fall color, all taken about October 1 right here in our yard.

Looking down our street |
We were told that because of the very dry conditions and a counterproductive temperature cycle, the colors this year were likely to be very subdued. And indeed, some trees simply turned brown and dropped everything at the first breeze.

But there was color to be found, and the urban forest where we live did quite well indeed. The color in these photos is mostly gone now, but the late-turning trees still beckon, along with shrubs, grasses, and the occasional planter of fall flowers. I am enjoying it all, as long as it lasts.

Beautiful images, Nancy! The leaves here are pretty much all down. But it is a wonderful day! Wish we could have some more of it! It's perfect!
Oh I'll bet that it's not the last nice day! You have a very colorful area with your fall trees.
Yup. Last nice day. Until the next one! :-)
Your street looks really beautiful. I think we've still got a ways to go with the warm days. Seems like I remember it getting cold around Halloween. We shall see.
Your fall photos are just wonderful! It is such a lovely time of year, isn't it? And looking down at your Mississipi mud -- well, your little one is as cute as anything I've ever seen!
Your last beautiful day was so much more beautiful than our last beautiful day here in Portland.
Beautiful photographs.. I need to read back and catch up on what you've been up to! x
That is our fall, too! Some trees just didn't bother with color, they just gave in. Which makes the trees that did turn seem even more remarkable!
Savor the last day...each and every one of them!
Your photos are very pretty. I think we may have had our last nice day. We left town for a couple of days and returned to very strong wind that was taking the last of the leaves off the trees.
The Butterfly Weed seeds are angelic! Marvelous pics!
I had to smile over the statement that we always say it's probably the last warm day. It's so true! You have a lot of lovely trees lining your street. A good friend lives on Hamline by Chelsea School. There was a row of huge elm trees but they've been felled by dutch elm and now her's is the only one left. It's so sad.
I found your blog through George's. The title just drew me over and I love your blog and your philosophy which is very similar to mine - I am a grandmother too and agree with your motto - 'Life is uncertain, eat dessert first'.
"BLissed-Out Grandma" has been included in the Sites To See for this week. I hope this helps to point many new visitors in your direction.

You had some great color in your yard! I enjoyed that warm weather too..we went for a drive..no coat needed! Hopefully we will have a few more days just like it! The rain came on Wednesday and it has been gently falling since then:)
I've been lamenting the lack of color in the leaves this fall. *sigh* Still doesn't stop me from reveling in these last warm days of fall.
beautiful! I especially love the "butterfly weed seeds floating on gossamer wings" !! and your street is so lovely!
I so love fall colors!
Lovely fall captures!
