Christmas favorites

Our ornaments are like a blended family...his, hers, and ours. Shortly before I "married them," Peter and Abby had one Christmas where money was tight and they spent time making gifts and ornaments. (She told him it was the best Christmas ever, because of the time they spent together.) This lace-ribbon star is one of their projects, and it's always in a place of honor on the tree. (Warning to Abby: spoiler ahead.) We can't remember who originally owned the little set of cooking utensils shown in this picture, but given Augie's and Abby's interest in baking, I have a hunch it will migrate to their tree soon.

Momentos that have real relevance are the best kind a person can possess. An ornament with a story is so much better than one that was bought in a store.

Voice--Absolutely! And we bought some of our ornaments together while on vacations in cool places, or to symbolize something about our lives, so they have meaning, too.

You have a great concept for a blog...I will be curious to see how it develops.

I have some such sentimental ornaments too proudly displayed.

Decorating the tree always brings back fond memories of Christmas's past. It makes me kinda sad that we just have a small monofiliment
tree now and the old ornaments are packed aways. I hope they bring joy to my kids and grandkids someday!

Concept for a blog? What do you mean? I still don't get what the whole "blog" thing means; I guess I'm a little dense.

How did you get your typewriter, by the way? Mine just popped up in my room.

By the way, the date above this entry says that it's December 6, 2009. I just thought I'd let you know. Mine's a little off, too--it keeps saying I'm sixty-one.

My favorite ornaments are the ones my girls made in school, homemade ones and the ones that came from special people in my life.

I've been living Christmas thru your blog, I want ya to know. (And loving it!)

While I have some ornaments I cherish and look at longingly, I don't put a tree b/c we go to my in-laws for two weeks every December.

And we have cats.

Maybe next year.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoy it. I guess we wouldn't have a tree if we were gone for a couple of weeks. But cats haven't been too much of a problem. We use unbreakable ornaments down low, don't even try to keep a tree skirt in place unless we have company (in which case the cats don't come around much), and we anchor the tree to the wall with monofilament fishing line. Works with kids, too. Tying the tree, I mean, not the kids.
